The Work Environment of Immigrant Employees in Sweden—a Systematic Review

Abstract The aim of this systematic review was to summarize and synthesize research results focusing on the work environment employees with an immigrant background in Sweden. We focus main conditions identified working how these may affect their health well-being. concept “minority stress” attachment theory are used understand interpret findings. systematically searched for literature published between years 1990 2020 four databases, Web Science, PubMed, SocIndex, Academic Search Elite. started selection process by reading title abstracts, then proceeded read a full-text studies eliminated those that did not fulfil inclusion criteria. quality assessment based MMAT-tool, performed narrative synthesis results. show immigrants experience several stressors environment, including physical, psychological, social risks. These risks are, among other things, associated nature jobs overrepresented in, minority-related such as discrimination, harassment, threats basis ethnic background, lack support from managers colleagues. Results also highlight beneficial factors immigrants’ importance supportive, inclusive, empowering management. Our conclusion is Swedish workplaces need introduce more active measures raise awareness combat workplace harder promote at workplace, eliminate hazards specific employees. leadership management have important role play here, does employees’ trade unions its special functions.
